STCAD Pro Preview
LuxSpace Sàrl has created a CAD engineering tool for TT&C Subsystems, the STCAD (Satellite TeleCommunications Analysis and Design). The tool was developed in the frame of a project with the European Space Agency titled TT&C Subsystems Architectural Optimisation. It makes easy the design of payload schematics with a library of predefined components and the automatic conversion into cascade analysis spread-sheets.
Due to the great interest this tool generated during the 2016 ESA TT&C Workshop and in the Space Community, LuxSpace started to work on a professional edition of this product, the STCAD Pro, with more features and improvements compared to the original version.
We are glad to announce that a Preview edition of the professional version, the STCAD Pro Preview, is already available. See Downloads section below.
The Preview is available for free with a license valid for six months (starting in November 2016) without any further obligation. During these six months, LuxSpace would be happy to receive your comments and feedback, to help us fix issues, perform appropriate improvements and implement additional features considered helpful by users.
Once the tool is installed, it will ask for a valid licence, please send us an email to STCADPro.Support@luxspace.lu with the UID that you will see in the screen and we will send it to you. Each computer needs additional licences, but there is not limit in the number of licences you can request.
STCAD Pro uses linear S-parameter modelling, complemented with cubic polynomials to account for nonlinear phenomena. The cascade analysis considers both mismatch and saturation effects, and its results have been validated with commercial state-of-the-art RF system analysis tools.
Other relevant aspects of STCAD are:
- Component library optimized for the design of TT&C subsystems for deep space, (although the tool itself is not restricted to this application);
- Different operating temperatures are allowed for each component independently of the others, thus allowing a great flexibility in the analysis;
- Optimized user interface that offers a simple and straightforward placement of components which maintains similarity with typical system drawings (i.e. Visio) and achieves architectural clarity even with populated schematics;
- The graphical interface provides pre-configured symbols which help to setup a TT&C architecture in a quick and convenient way.
The definition of the S-parameters and cubic polynomials is transparent to the user, who is only requested to enter performance data available from vendors. STCAD’s model parameters are already filled with default typical values, allowing for a straightforward place & simulate approach to first time users.
For ease of acceptance and application of STCAD by project teams it is based on standard office PC software such as Visio® for a drawing program and Excel® for a spread sheet calculator, these components are a requirement for the application to run.
