LuxSpace awarded a study contract from the European Defence Agency (EDA)

LuxSpace received a research contract from the European Defence Agency (EDA). The kick-off was performed successfully at EDA headquartered in Brussels. This project investigates innovative data mining and data fusion algorithms and their application and use for the generation of an enhanced maritime awareness picture. LuxSpace will contribute its extensive know-how in the processing of AIS data and other information sources from the maritime sector.
The study contract volume amounts to EUR 400.000 including a co-financing share of LuxSpace. The project duration is 14 month with a possible 9 months extension. “This is the first contract, the company ever has received from the European Defence Agency and it is quite important for us to further develop our capabilities in data mining”, underlined Jochen Harms, Managing Director of LuxSpace.
The research activities are conducted in close cooperation with the Department of Information Systems at the Poznan University of Economics, Poland.
The project named SIMMO (System for Intelligent Maritime Monitoring) belongs to EDA´s Second Joint Investment Programme on Innovative Concepts and Emerging Technologies (JIP-ICET 2) and is looking, among others, into novel artificial intelligence systems for data & information fusion.
